    Regulatory Context

    What does the CNBV require?

IFRS S2 structures climate-related disclosures around four pillars. Your report must cover all of them.

    Governance

Board and management oversight of climate-related risks and opportunities. Climatta automatically generates decision records and the audit trail that assurance providers require.

    Strategy

Current and anticipated climate impacts on the business model. Centralise climate scenarios, transition plans and resilience analysis in a single platform.

    Risk Management

Processes to identify, assess and manage climate-related risks. Climatta connects your GHG inventory directly with your enterprise risk management framework.

    Metrics & Targets

Verified Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, intensity ratios and reduction targets. Automate collection from ERPs, subsidiaries and suppliers with full audit traceability.

    Regulatory timeline

    2025
    Now

FY2025 data collection. Companies reporting under NIF must start measuring today.

    2026
    First Report

First mandatory IFRS S1/S2 report for BMV/BIVA issuers, covering FY2025 data.

    2027
    Limited Assurance

Sustainability data faces the same scrutiny as financial statements. Limited assurance required by external auditors.

    2028
    Reasonable Assurance

Highest level of assurance — equivalent to a full financial audit. Without clean data from 2025, compliance is impossible.

    The problem

Your sustainability data will face the same scrutiny as your financial statements

Most Mexican companies are not ready. The numbers make it clear.

    Only 50%

of listed Mexican companies measure Scope 1 and 2 with the correct methodology.

    75%

do not measure Scope 3 — which can represent up to 90% of their total carbon footprint.

    2027

is when auditors will review your data with the same rigour as your finances. Without preparation starting today, compliance is impossible.

    Frequently asked questions

    Everything you need to know

If your company is listed on the BMV or BIVA, yes — it has been mandatory since January 2025, with the first report due in 2026. If your company is not listed but reports under Mexican NIF standards, NIS A-1 and NIS B-1 (CINIF) apply on the same calendar.

The first IFRS S1/S2 report for BMV/BIVA issuers covers fiscal year 2025 and must be submitted in 2026. That means you need to collect data in a structured, auditable way throughout 2025 — starting now.

IFRS S2 requires Scope 3 disclosure when it is material to your company. 75% of Mexican companies do not measure it today. Climatta automates collection from suppliers and the supply chain using IPCC and GHG Protocol emission factors.

For the 2026 report (FY2025 data), formal assurance is not yet required. Limited assurance is mandatory in 2027 and reasonable assurance in 2028. However, if your data is not auditable from 2025, you will not be able to meet 2027 requirements.

Partially. GRI and IFRS S2 share many indicators, but IFRS S2 has specific governance, scenario analysis and climate-related financial metric requirements that GRI does not cover. Climatta maps your data to both frameworks simultaneously.

Yes. The CNBV formally mandated IFRS S1 and S2 on 29 January 2025 via an amendment to its Circular Única de Emisoras, making Mexico the first country in North America to require ISSB-aligned sustainability reporting for public companies.
